Who we are

BLU represents the users of Brockwell Lido in all dealings with Fusion Leisure and Lambeth Council. We advocate for a well-maintained and inclusive Lido.

What is BLU?

BLU is the official user group for all lido users. Whether you use the pool, gym or classes, we're here so that your voice is heard. Since September 2001 we've been working to make sure the lido stays open and available to all.

Brockwell Lido is owned by Lambeth Council and run under a long lease by Fusion Lifestyle, a professional leisure centre operator that runs a number of sites across London and the south of England.

Other FAQs

How do i find out about Lido opening times and prices?

Fusion publishes its timetable for the lido every month. You can find out about prices, timetables and opening times on their website

Do I activate my gym membership or book classes through you?

No, we are only a group representing users of the centre. For anything to do with your membership of the site, buying tickets or booking classes, you need to go through Fusion directly.

How do I complain?

You can complain or provide feedback to Fusion face to face or via their tracking survey. BLU can also help escalate major or recurring issues. For more details please go here.

How do I become a member of BLU?

All users, aged 16 or over, of facilities at the Brockwell Lido, including those who swim, use the gym, attend the classes, use the spa and attend Whippersnappers’ activities are eligible to become members. To submit your request to join please click here.

How do I become a member of the BLU committee?

All nominees for the BLU committee must have been a member of BLU for at least the prior six months before nomination.

Committee members are voted in at the Annual General Meeting.

However, from time to time new members are also co-opted, whereby their nomination will be subject to voting by committee members. As with other members standing for committee roles, they are then required to be voted in at the next AGM.

What is Brockwell Lido Steering Group?

Fusion's lease requires it to engage with the local community and work with a community organisation called the Brockwell Lido Steering Group (BLSG). BLSG's role is recognised in the Community Service Agreement between Fusion and Lambeth.

Who is on the Brockwell Lido Steering Group?

Membership of the BLSG is made up of BLU members and local organisations. The Committee members are the following:

  • 5 Lido Users, drawn from the BLU committee

  • 2 park organisations (Friends of Brockwell Park and Brockwell Park Community Partners)

  • 1 residents' organisation (Effra Housing Co-operative)

  • 2 community organisations (Herne Hill Society and Herne Hill Forum)

Our Committee

Ben Longman

(Chair)

Ben has been a member at the lido for several years and swims daily. He is a former trustee of a local charity, co-founder of Brixton’s community fridge and lives locally. He is committed to ensuring a strong user voice, fostering the lido community and helping maintain the future of the lido.

Margie Patrick

(Secretary)

Margie works in IT Programme Management and has been swimming at the Lido for 10 years and loves it. She swims all year round from winter dips to longer training sessions in the summer. She also loves swimming in the sea when she gets a chance and has done a number of long-distance swimming events. She has been a co-swimming captain at Windrush Triathlon Club for 3 years, although her interests are more oriented to social swimming than racing. She lives locally, occasionally does Brockwell parkrun and also attend classes at the lido.

Emma Rowley-Conwy

(Treasurer)

Emma has been a Lambeth GP for over 30 years, and worked in the NHS locally as a leader in various roles. She has served on several committees, as a member and as a chair and has experience of leading operational service delivery (estates, HR, delivery contractual targets, finance, IT, legals, etc). She is keen to see the lido flourishing, as she believes it has so much potential.

Marc Meryon

(Chair, BLSC)

Marc swims every day and uses the sauna every day during winter. Marc has been on the BLU committee for a couple of years and became Chair of BLSC in January 2025. Since then he has worked hard to maintain pressure on Fusion to improve the Lido. He is is a former lawyer who now works part time as a strategy director in the rail sector. He used to be a NED of Kings College Hospital and has lived in Herne Hill for over 30 years.

Tina Mckenzie O’Neill

Tina is a longtime swimmer at the lido, whose children have swum here and also where she first learned to swim lengths properly. She has taught in South London for 20 years, brings some of her classes to the lido and has experience on committees and as a school governor.

Carole Stagg

Carole has been a Brockwell Lido user for over 60 years and is a user of the gym, spa and the pool: her first dip was as a 3 year old with her parents. It was where she learnt to swim as a young child and where she still loves to ‘take the waters’ every day.

Hugo Delamain

Hugo feels passionately about ensuring as many people as possible have access to the facilities that are needed to maintain good physical and mental health. His focus over the past ten years has largely been in endurance sports. He is a big advocate for the benefits of strength training for everyone. Professionally, he manages an Organisation Design platform.

Anna Jane

Anna is a south London native and has been coming to the lido since she was a baby, so has seen it change a fair bit over the years. It’s one of her favourite places in the world, and it makes her feel very connected to the city she grew up and its inhabitants (people, parakeets, drowning bees etc). She believes the lido is an important community asset and wants to make sure it's fit for purpose, and value for money for the community it serves.

Celine Cluzel

Celine lives locally and regularly attends the classes at the lido all year around. Between May and September she is a keen user of the pool and spa. Having been a member for several years, she is keen to contribute to the ongoing success of the lido. She has a background in consultancy and project management and has worked on community projects around rewilding, biodiversity and climate change.

Trudie Goodwin

Trudie has been a stage and screen actor for the past 50 years, most notably as one of the leads in police series The Bill. She has lived locally for more than 35 years, has experience in public speaking and media engagement. She is involved with several projects on a voluntary basis, including Herne Hill Welcomes Refugees. Trudie and her family are regular users or the lido, and actively supported the campaign to save it.

Kate Rist

Kate is a regular swimmer a the lido who swims there every summer day and spend her winters in the gym. She is an expert in generating income, building partnerships and shaping compelling engagement strategies across global organisations. She wants to help grow BLU's membership and income through creative campaigns, outreach and partnerships and to widen engagement to younger adults and new users.
